Lucas Browne defeats Richard Towers

Last Saturday saw the highly anticipated Heavyweight clash between Lucas Browne and Richard Towers at Hull’s ICE Arena. Both boxers came into the fight unbeaten, with Sheffield’s Towers boasting a record of 14-0, and the Australian ‘Big Daddy’ Browne one of 18-0, between the two they had 26 KO finishes. With this combined career record fireworks were to be expected, and that’s exactly what the crowd got. The Australian came out strong from the opening round, looking for the knockout punch, and come the half point of the fight, Towers was unable to answer, conceding a KO finish in the 5th round. Lucas Browne takes his record to 18-0 while Richard Towers gets handed his first loss, taking his record to 14-1. Also on this card was the exciting Lightweight matchup between Olympic Gold medallist Luke Campbell and Derbyshire’s Lee Connelly. Connelly pushed forward throughout, but was ultimately outpointed by the Olympian Campbell, who landed a number of flurries on Connelly and went on to secure a stoppage win in the 5th round in front of his hometown fans in Hull. In the post-fight interview, Campell described Connelly as ‘a tough little warrior’ for his forward-fighting style and tough chin, adding that ‘he just couldn’t crack him’. This was the Hull fighter’s 3rd win is as many professional fights, and the first time he had to take it outside of the first round to do so. Campbell will next step into the ring on the undercard of Carl Froch’s world title fight with George Groves on November 23rd in Manchester Pro-xsports.com | Boxing |Boxing Shoes| Boxing Gloves |
